Biography

John Phillips was a Boston Committee for Nonviolent Action draft resister. A federal court imprisoned him in 1966 for refusing to report for a Selective Service physical examination and induction. He was still at the federal prison in Petersburg, Virginia, more than twelve months later and was later transferred to Allenwood. When his term ended, he refused to leave and was removed in a wheelchair. His exact admission and release dates remain unresolved. Phillips later joined the Chicago 15 draft-record burning on May 25, 1969. He did not appear when the federal trial began on May 5, 1970, and that case was severed; no later Chicago conviction or sentence has been verified.
