John Perlich was one of the leaders of the 6 March 1930 unemployment demonstration in Milwaukee — a crowd estimated at 25,000 — sentenced to 6 months in the Milwaukee House of Correction under the city's Socialist administration.

Its row prints John Perlich, a term of 6 months, the year 1930 in the sentencing-year column, and confinement or correspondence location Station F, Box G, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The October 26 Milwaukee dispatch advertises a November 16 ILD welcome for Leo Fisher, Max Kagan and John Perlich, describing six-month terms after the March 6 unemployment demonstration. Its wording mixes released with will have served and supplies no individual physical discharge day; the future banquet date is not used as a release date or a completed-service counter. It also identifies Fred Bassett as still the imprisoned Communist gubernatorial candidate under a one-year sentence.
