Biography

Waco dentist Dr. John Greenberg is individually described by Harold Preece as first arrested three years before this July–August 1935 issue, placed under $2,500 bond and subjected to closed immigration hearings. A renewed warrant ordered him to Romania months before publication. Preece says he belonged to no organization but was accused of Communist and anarchist activity and agitation among Black workers. His Jewish identity heightened the reported danger in Romania. The American Committee for the Protection of Foreign Born had taken his case. The renewed warrant and feared removal are prospective rather than actual deportation; no exact arrest day or complete custody duration is supplied.
