Biography
John Droesser was identified as a Communist and noncitizen in a Home Relief Bureau surveillance report reproduced by the Daily Worker on October 23, 1934, pages 1-2. The investigator described him being held for a grand jury by Magistrate Harris in the West Side Court after a February 14 relief-office disturbance at P.D.O. 18, 519 West 44th Street, New York. The report accused him of biting a police officer and stated that police badly beat him and that he spent about a week in Bellevue Hospital. It was reproduced beside instructions seeking arrested foreign-born Communist relief recipients for referral to Immigration Commissioner Corsi. These are attributed surveillance accusations, not a conviction or proof that he was deported. Exact arrest, discharge and complete custody duration remain unknown; a hospital stay is not a verified prison total.
