Biography

Jesus A. Avalos was a Mexican newspaper agent and reporter at 906 G Street, Brawley, arrested by Sheriff Gillett after refusing to remove a bulletin board about jailed strike workers. The June 1, 1928 article explicitly dates the store arrest May 15, but quotes a sheriff’s statement dated May 13; that internal conflict is retained without choosing an exact arrest day. The continuation calls him Jesus G. Avalos. A May 15 deportation claim was contradicted the next day by officials acknowledging his right to remain. No executed physical deportation is established.
