Biography

Jesse Dunning was a member of the IWW from Bemidji, Minnesota. Jesse Dunning was arrested for possessing IWW literature. He received a two-year sentence.

White names the Bemidji lumberjack and IWW local secretary Jesse J. Dunning, whose possession of Sabotage books by Flynn and Pouget supported a two-year criminal-syndicalism sentence. White dates arrest to the last day of September1917, conflicting with the existing July22 date. The disagreement is retained without replacing that date or treating two years as actual service.

White’s book places Dunning’s arrest in Bemidji on July 22, 1917, continued custody through the October 3 trial, and the resulting two-year criminal-syndicalism judgment. This agrees with the existing July date but conflicts with White’s earlier article’s September arrest wording; the two-year sentence is not treated as proven actual time served.
