Biography
Frank Westerlund was an IWW organizer from Duluth, Minnesota. Frank Westerlund was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Chicago, sentenced to five years in prison and fined $30,000. He served in the Cook County Jail and Leavenworth Penitentiary from January 23, 1918, to April 28, 1919, and from April 26, 1921, until his parole on October 20, 1922. Westerlund had a wife and one child.
The March 1920 One Big Union Monthly prisoner roster provides a contemporaneous procedural account. The roster reports that he was out on $5,000 bond pending appeal in the Chicago IWW prosecution. The March1922 official report lists Frank Westerlund in List1 of convicted prisoners or parolees. The government entry reports Seditious conspiracy. a term expiration or parole status in the named roster. Imposed terms, projected term-expiration dates, parole eligibility and intervals on bond are different measures; none is entered as a complete actual custody total.
