Biography
Jeffrey Dowd, generally known as Jeff Dowd, was an antiwar organizer and Seattle Seven defendant. His co-defendant Roger Lippman recalls that they were transferred from Tacoma jail to McNeil Island federal prison together.
The prosecution concerned the February 17, 1970 antiwar demonstration in Seattle. Judge George Boldt declared a mistrial and imposed summary contempt sentences. On November 18, 1971, the Ninth Circuit reversed the contempt judgments because the procedure and factual certifications were inadequate. Further contempt proceedings produced reduced sentences; the original conspiracy prosecution ended in 1973. The original sentences do not establish the actual total time served.
