Biography
James Jones, also known as Sekou Lumpen, was a former Inmates for Action member and a leader of the People’s Community Hall in Mobile, Alabama. Police beat and arrested Jones with Glenn Diamond and accused them of robbery. Movement accounts described the prosecution as a frame-up connected to their community organizing. The available record does not identify the arrest date, booking interval, release date or final court disposition.
The June 2, 1975 Black Panther photograph individually identifies James(Sekou Lupen)Jones among Inmates for Action members. Its November 15 issue identifies Sekou as a former IFA leader who had been released from Atmore-Holman and continued organizing against prison repression. That earlier imprisonment was distinct from the later Mobile robbery prosecution. The sources do not give its original entry, release day or completed duration.
