Biography
Page 3 individually identifies James Jobes in the front/rear-row caption of the Denver-Arapahoe relief-strike defendants. The accompanying December 6 report dates the arrests to October 30, 1934, after police attacked FERA strikers protesting a 51 percent relief-work wage cut. It says all were then out on bail with District Court jury trials set for December 11 and ILD attorneys Thomas J. Croaff and Grover C. Johnson defending. The caption's six-month to two-year exposure is a prospective penalty range, not an imposed or served sentence. Bardwell is identified as Unemployment Councils secretary. Mrs. Brown's own given name is not printed; she is distinct from her husband Henry. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n292-Nat-dec-07-DW-LOC.pdf
Page 3's December 18 Denver report individually names this defendant among six convicted in the October 30 FERA picket-line prosecution. Their sentences ranged from two to six months, with $200 fines; it does not say which person received which term. It reports nine unnamed acquittals and an ILD appeal being planned. Earlier bail liberty remains preserved; imposed terms are not completed service and the acquittals are not assigned to an assumed remainder of the photograph.
