Biography

Jacob Stoll was a Custom Tailoring Workers Industrial Union executive committee member and leader of the eighteen-week Schanz shop strike. The November 1, 1934 issue reports Judge Corrigan convicted him of felonious assault about ten days earlier and sentenced him to 500 days in jail. Striker pressure secured substitution of a $500 fine; union members raised $900 in two days toward his release. The changed penalty is not 500 days actually served; the item does not explicitly confirm physical discharge or its date.
