Biography

Isidore Smith was a thirteen-year-old Young Pioneer arrested on May Day, May 1, 1931, for activity outside P.S.109 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The Daily Worker of May 29, 1931, page 2, also reports his one-week school suspension after he spoke during an auditorium discussion following a teacher’s speech about the war-plane exhibition over New York. The later school suspension is not a jail sentence; the article does not establish the duration or disposition of his May Day arrest.
