Biography
Ishimatsu Shintani was a Hiroshima-born ranch hand and beekeeper on Niihau. Following the December 1941 Niihau incident, officials determined that he had aided the downed Japanese pilot and ordered incarceration, according to JCCH. This account of an official determination is distinct from a criminal conviction, which the cited archive does not establish. He was held at Waimea Jail, Wailua County Jail and Sand Island, then transferred to mainland US camps in March 1942. Listed confinement includes Angel Island March-April 1942, Fort Sill April-May 1942, Camp Livingston June 1942-June 1943, Fort Missoula June 1943-April 1944 and Santa Fe April 1944-October 1945. He returned to Honolulu aboard Yarmouth in November 1945. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/shintani-ishimatsu
