Biography
Irving Lebold was the organizer of Stuyvesant Heights Unemployment Council 2 in Brooklyn. The Daily Worker individually names him among twelve grievance-committee members arrested at noon on August 17, 1936 at the Home Relief Bureau district office at Broadway and Myrtle Avenue. The delegation demanded immediate action on eleven emergency relief cases. The report says office manager Mrs. A. Decker preferred disorderly-conduct charges after an argument, and police ejected and arrested the delegation. After an hour in jail the twelve were paroled into the custody of International Labor Defense attorney Feld. An August 21 hearing was prospective; no later judgment or prison sentence is established. Two unnamed Black children were separately taken to Children’s Court, and no personal parentage is assigned to either named organizer.
