Biography

Ira Langus was a striking shoe salesman in the Kitty Kelly dispute, represented by Retail Shoe Salesmen’s Union Local 1268 in New York. The union’s contemporary account individually places him among pickets arrested at the Fordham store Friday, August 7, 1936. The same article also places Gollon and Langus in later Saturday arrests; these are repeated arrests, not two people. The union alleged that police selected recognized strikers for arrest while ignoring a citizens’ support line. Cases were scheduled for Bronx Magistrates Court later that week; the report establishes actual arrest, not a completed hearing, conviction, release or measured jail term.
