Biography

Ichiro Izuka was a Kauai longshoreman, labor organizer and ILWU local vice president. JCCH records his early 1942 arrest for distributing union newspapers and confinement at Wailua County Jail. He was paroled August 1942 and released from parole September 1943. The archive cites a 1944 AFL memorandum protesting intimidation of unions by the Hawaiian military government and noting ILWU assistance in obtaining his release. This is a documented US wartime labor-related detention case; no individual criminal conviction is established by the cited record. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/izuka-ichiro
