Biography

Hyman Reich was an organizer for the Food Workers Industrial Union arrested after an attack on pickets at the American Market, Broadway between 93rd and 94th Streets, New York. The Daily Worker of May 20, 1931, page 1, reports that twenty-five hired men attacked ten pickets with pipes and blackjacks while police watched. After Reich was badly clubbed, police arrested him for disorderly conduct. A night-court appearance was expected, but the issue does not establish an actual disposition, sentence or release. The article’s relative yesterday wording is not used to assert an unsupported exact arrest date.
