Biography
Hulet M. Wells was from Seattle, Washington. Hulet M. Wells was tried jointly with Joseph Pass and sentenced on March 18, 1918. He served in McNeil Island Penitentiary from March 19, 1918, until his sentence was commuted to two years on November 13, 1920.
1920s custody review: The Morning Oregonian of May 29, 1917, page 1, carries a Seattle dispatch dated May 28 reporting the arrest that day of Hulet M. Wells and Sam Sadler over anti-draft circulars. It says Wells was released later on a $3,000 bond after a preliminary hearing. May 28, 1917 is added as the original arrest date; this brief initial detention is not continuous imprisonment through 1920. The later prison-admission chronology remains under review: a transcription of the Everett Labor Journal of November 19, 1920 says McNeil admission was June 1919, whereas the inherited database date is March 19, 1918. Original Library of Congress scans were access-blocked during this check, so the disputed admission date is not silently replaced.

The Seattle report individually identifies him among four antiwar leaflet defendants, alongside AaronFislerman and R.E.Rice, with trial still prospective. The individually captioned photograph identifies Sadler and Wells, but threatened long terms are not sentences already imposed. Existing identified portraits are retained.
