Biography
Homer Chase was a New Hampshire labor organizer and Communist Party activist who served with the Abraham Lincoln Battalion in the Spanish Civil War. Franco’s forces captured him and held him in Burgos for more than a year before an exchange secured his release on October 8, 1938. In the 1950s, New Hampshire authorities prosecuted him after he refused questions in the state attorney general’s anti-subversion investigation. The reviewed record does not establish confinement in the New Hampshire case.
