Biography
Haru Tanaka was an Issei resident of Wahiawa, Oahu, and principal of Wahiawa Showa Japanese Language School, born in 1893 according to JCCH. Her individual record documents arrest in December 1941, Sand Island detention, mainland transfer in June 1942, Sharp Park June-July 1942, Seagoville July 1942-April 1943 and Crystal City April 1943-December 1945. She returned to Hawaii aboard Shawnee in December 1945. JCCH distinguishes her arrest and confinement from family-reunification transfers and identifies Japanese ancestry as the detention context. This was administrative US wartime civilian detention. No individual criminal conviction, imposed judicial sentence or exact arrest or release day is established.
