Biography

Greg Franklin was identified by The Black Panther as a Black Panther Party member whom Los Angeles police beat and arrested with Robert “Sharief” Kendrick on April 27, 1977. Police accused Franklin of assault and battery on a peace officer. The available contemporary report describes the charge as false, but a booking record, release date and final disposition have not been located.

The newspaper’s chronology dates Franklin and Kendrick’s assault-and-battery arrest to April 27, 1977. It separately reports their May 12 arrest for allegedly obstructing traffic while standing at a bus stop. These are arrest events; the report does not provide individual custody intervals or final dispositions.
