Biography
Grace Thorpe, also known as No Ten O Quah, was a Sac and Fox Nation activist, Women’s Army Corps veteran and daughter of athlete Jim Thorpe. She served as a publicist and negotiator during the occupation of Alcatraz and later worked against nuclear-waste storage on Native land. Shasta County officers arrested Thorpe with thirty-three other Native activists and supporters on June 6, 1970 during the Pit River Tribe’s occupation of land claimed by Pacific Gas & Electric at Big Bend, California. Officers carried Thorpe from the site and took the group to Redding for booking on trespass charges. The case was still pending in early 1971, but an exact release time and final disposition have not been located.
