Mohave AIM organizer from the Indio, California area, arrested on January 1, 1976 on charges of possessing blasting caps in what supporters described as a frame-up tied to his Native rights organizing in the Coachella Valley. Documented in PFOC Breakthrough magazine.

A July 1977 report describes a separate pretrial remand of AIM organizer Sid Welsh. After he registered at a Parker motel on January 27, 1976, his bond was revoked at the following day’s preliminary hearing. The account states that he spent two months in jail until a lower bond was set and funds were raised. This later jail phase is distinct from the January 1 arrest already recorded. It also describes a May 7, 1976 conviction followed by the grant of a new trial; that verdict is not a final sentence or release.
