Biography
Gloria Shields was individually named among San Diego Black Panthers arrested July 16, 1969 on the way to a breakfast-program meeting at St. Andrews Episcopal Church called by Father Curran. The newspaper reports concealed-weapon and grand-auto-theft allegations and twelve hours of City Jail confinement for the group. It then states that Shields, described as the sister, was taken to Juvenile Hall and actually released July 17. This identifies juvenile custody connected by the paper to repression of the party’s organizing; it does not establish a conviction or sentence.
