Biography

Roland Freeman was wounded during the Central Avenue raid and held in the Los Angeles County General Hospital prison ward. A later prison interview also documents his continued county-jail confinement during the raid prosecution. He is distinct from his brother Ronald Freeman. This historical record does not establish current custody. Total time detained and any unreported individual disposition remain unverified.

In a published recollection, Ericka Huggins described the February 1968 Los Angeles street arrests of Ronald and Roland Freeman and their detention at the 77th Street station until supporters obtained bail. Huggins and her husband Jon observed and organized support; the passage does not say they were arrested at that incident. The Black Panther, February 13, 1971, original PDF page 6. Los Angeles Panther raids and detention

Roland Freeman was wounded during the Central Avenue raid and held in the Los Angeles County General Hospital prison ward. A later prison interview also documents his continued county-jail confinement during the raid prosecution. He is distinct from his brother Ronald Freeman.

The December 8, 1969 Los Angeles police raids targeted Black Panther premises at Central Avenue, the Toure Community Center and a residence on 55th Street. The Party denounced the operation as political repression. Contemporary Party reports are attributed as such; their allegations of mistreatment are not presented as independent court findings.

Individual verdicts, physical release dates and time actually detained are recorded only where supported. The broader trial included acquittals on serious counts and some weapons-conspiracy convictions. It would be inaccurate to describe every raid defendant as acquitted of every charge.
