Biography
George Zaklan was a Serbian laborer born around 1891 in Mogorić, Austria-Hungary, in present-day Croatia, and immigrated to the United States in 1909. He joined the Socialist Party in early 1919 and then Detroit’s Serbian Branch No. 212 of the Communist Party. After federal authorities ordered his deportation, Zaklan asked to be sent to Russia instead of Yugoslavia. The request was granted, and he was deported on March 18, 1921.
