Biography

George W. Johnson was described as a Texas poor-farmer and unemployed-workers leader and Communist candidate for Commissioner of the General Land Office. The Daily Worker of October 26, 1934, page 3, explicitly states that he had been subjected to repeated imprisonment for his organizing. It gives no individual case dates, count of arrests, formal charge, imposed sentence, jail name, physical release day or complete time served. One undated summary record preserves that reported imprisonment without manufacturing separate episodes. This Texas organizer is not linked to the Civil War George H. Johnson or the Philadelphia eviction-defense George Johnson. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n256-NAT-oct-26-1934-DW-LOC.pdf#page=3.
