Biography

George Geoffrian was detained on Angel Island in a deportation proceeding alleging subversive activities. The June 1 San Francisco dispatch in the June 4, 1936 Western Worker reports proposed deportation to France and $2,500 bail. The ILD sought loans and property bail to obtain release. A petition to reduce Geoffrian’s bail was pending in federal court. Bail requested or set does not establish release, and threatened removal does not prove completed deportation. No exact custody endpoints or total are provided. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/westernworker/1936/v5n45-w308%5B208%5D-jun-04-1936.pdf#page=3

The page 2 ILD bail appeal prints the name George Geoffrin and reports continued detention on Angel Island for alleged subversive activity. It seeks $2,000 more after $1,500 from other sources for the organization’s bail fund. This is a renewed fundraising appeal for the existing deportation case, not proof of a newly fixed individual bail amount or an actual release.
