Biography
George Adam Steck was a German-born bartender and weaver living in Helena. His sedition prosecution concerned remarks condemning forced displays of loyalty to the American flag and expressing support for Germany. He pleaded guilty after proceedings were delayed by the influenza epidemic and was imprisoned at Deer Lodge. He died in Helena in 1933.
The original Montana State Prison descriptive intake form records actual receipt at Deer Lodge on 1919-02-11 and sentencing on 1919-02-10 in the Lewis and Clark County state sedition case, with an imposed term of one to three years. The report date is distinct from prison admission; receipt is not necessarily initial arrest, and the term is not completed time served. No new physical discharge is inferred. The named form includes frontal and profile photographs. Source: https://clcowgill.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/intakeform-m-w.pdf#page=22
