Biography

Genyei Miyagi, also recorded as Genei Miyagi, was principal of Waialae Japanese Language School in Honolulu and an executive officer of the Hawaii Japanese Education Association. JCCH records his arrest at the school on December 7, 1941. After Sand Island, he was transferred to mainland US Army and Justice Department camps in February 1942. He was held at Angel Island, Camp McCoy, Camp Forrest, Camp Livingston, Santa Fe, Jerome and Rohwer. The Rohwer interval ends in August 1945; his family moved to California after the war. His wife Fusako and daughter Kikuno entered confinement to reunite with him, rather than sharing his arrest chronology. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/miyagi-genyei
