Biography
Genpachi Edgar Tsushima was an Issei Honolulu resident, Hawaii Hochi reporter and Japanese language school teacher. JCCH records his birth year as 1897 and the pen name Tsushima Jukichi. His individual record documents arrest in March 1943, Honolulu Immigration Station and Honouliuli custody, Sharp Park July-August 1943 and Santa Fe August 1943-October 1945. The archive inconsistently labels his ninth-group mainland transfer as March 1943 in the timeline heading and July 1943 in the details; no single transfer date is asserted here. He returned to Hawaii aboard Yarmouth in November 1945. This was administrative US wartime civilian confinement in the context of Japanese ancestry. No individual criminal conviction, imposed judicial sentence or exact arrest or release day is established. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/tsushima-genpachi-edgar-jukichi
