Biography
Fumiko Kitajima was a Nisei Japanese American child from Kapaa, Kauai, and a daughter of Shoyu and Kamechiyo Kitajima. JCCH records her birth year as 1935. Her individual record documents departure from Kauai in November 1942, custody at the Honolulu Immigration Station, mainland transfer aboard Lurline in December 1942, Jerome confinement January 1943-May 1944 and Tule Lake confinement May 1944-November 1945. She returned to Honolulu aboard Shawnee in December 1945. Her own confinement timeline is distinct from the December 1941 arrest of her father. This was administrative US wartime family confinement in the context of Japanese ancestry; the archive establishes no individual criminal conviction.
