Biography
Fred Wermann was identified as a New York printer held in the U.S. deportation campaign against labor and anti-fascist activists in December 1935. The report describes impending removal to Nazi Germany. A January 20 follow-up prints Fred Herrmann and lists a proposed January 22 sailing with Alfred Miller and Walter Baer; identity between the surname spellings is plausible but unresolved, and the proposed sailing is not proof of departure. Exact initial arrest, release, final disposition and total custody are unprinted. Daily Worker, December 30, 1935, original PDF page 3. Page3’s anti-fascist deportation report identifies Fred Wermann as in actual custody aboard a deportation train from Chicago, due at EllisIsland on publication day, December25; transfer arrival and later removal remain prospective. It attributes political grounds and danger of persecution to the AmericanCommitteeForProtectionOfForeignBorn. No new detention episode is created merely from this interim status.
