Biography

Fred Gardner was president of Hospital Employes Union Local 171 of the Building Service Employes International Union. The May 18, 1936 Daily Worker reports that police arrested approximately one hundred pickets outside Polyclinic Hospital, 345 West 50th Street, New York, on May 17, including Gardner. The picketing protested a ten-percent wage cut and the superintendent's refusal to rescind it. All arrested pickets were held for trial in night court at 314 West 54th Street; no individual verdict, sentence or release is supplied.
