Biography
Printed Ern. McDuffy in the victims-of-national-oppression section of the September 1934 ILD roster, he was confined at Minnesota State Reformatory in St. Cloud under a seven-year sentence. The source does not state an individual statutory charge, exact admission, release or actual completed duration. The printed surname is retained without expansion into another spelling. Labor Defender, May 1934: The current-prisoner roster explicitly expands the printed name to Ernest McDuffy, gives the charge as mistreating a white girl, reports a seven-year sentence and says he was forbidden to receive Labor Defender. This adds the roster’s attributed charge and censorship detail, without an invented statute, intake date or completed term. Labor Defender, August 1932, printed page 155 (PDF page 17): The youth-prisoner roster explicitly prints Ernest McDuffy, eighteen, at St. Cloud Reformatory, Minnesota, arrested in January 1932 on a rape charge the defense magazine describes as a frame-up and sentenced to seven years. The nominal seven years is not completed service. This adds charge, age as reported and month-only arrest precision to the existing identity, without inventing a January 1 arrest or a physical release.
