2010s audit verified October 12, 2026: Freedom of the Press Foundation's original investigation describes the December 7, 2017 arrest, interrupted attempted removal and same-day transfer into immigration detention, followed by release July 26, 2018. The admission month placeholder was narrowed to the documented day; its stale 237-day duration was removed.
Calculation follow-up October 13, 2026: The earlier blanket clearing of the day total was too broad for this completed custody interval. Both recorded endpoints are source-verified full dates; the supported elapsed-day total is retained. This does not count bail, later supervision or unrelated custody. Sources already verified for the corrected dates: source.
The July 17, 2018 Ragbir amended complaint recounts the joint December 7, 2017 detention of Emilio Gutiérrez Soto and his son Oscar, despite a stay preventing their immediate removal, and continued confinement after the December 22 reopening of their asylum appeal. It cites the July 10, 2018 federal ruling finding a genuine factual dispute over alleged First Amendment retaliation. A triable factual dispute is not a final finding that retaliation occurred. The existing custody interval remains unchanged.
