Biography

Emanuel Vajtauer was an editor of Obrana involved in a deportation prosecution. The May 11, 1925 Daily Worker dates an earlier Chicago arrest to April 4, 1924 and a deportation order to August 1924, and places him on Ellis Island in February 1925. It reports that Judge Hand dismissed an appeal in April and that Vajtauer had actually been released a few days before publication on $1,000 bail. These successive observations do not prove uninterrupted confinement from the Chicago arrest. His final Ellis Island release is recorded at May 1925 month precision, without an exact day or measured total.
