Biography

Elmer James Dixon III was a Garfield High School student, Black Student Union organizer and co-founder of the Seattle Black Panther Party. He and the other student activists were released on April 5.

A separate armed-robbery prosecution followed Dixon’s February 1969 trip to organize a Black Panther meeting in Eugene. The Oregon Court of Appeals records his return to Seattle early on February 16 and subsequent police transport to Eugene on February 19. A jury convicted him and imposed six years; the appellate court affirmed in March 1971. By December 1971 the party newspaper reported him at Oregon State Penitentiary and described a parole hearing at which officials questioned his political speeches. His exact prison-admission and release dates remain unresolved.
