Biography

Buddy Eugene Yates was a Seattle Black Panther section leader. He was arrested in the Market Basket grocery-store robbery case in December 1968 and convicted on May 5, 1969. He received a twenty-year sentence and was held at Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, where the party included him in its prisoner-support campaign.

The hearing records Yates's May 5, 1969 conviction and twenty-year sentence in the Market Basket robbery case. Its chronology is internally inconsistent: Fridell described the arrest with Artis Parker on December 28, 1968, whereas a later editorial footnote dates the Market Basket robbery to January 18, 1969. This discrepancy is retained as a source limitation; it does not justify replacing the existing arrest date or inferring a custody duration.
