Biography

Eli Della was a Weirton steelworker and Amalgamated Association union member. In testimony reported by the Daily Worker, October 25, 1934, page 2, he said police seized and struck him while he distributed leaflets, took him to the police station, and threatened him there. He identified mill policeman John Lukisch as punching him repeatedly on the way. The testimony was given in the Wilmington hearing concerning the steel labor dispute. The report does not date the earlier detention, name a jail, or establish a formal charge or served term; the abuse claims are attributed to his testimony.
