Biography

Edward Montley was a Black prisoner at San Quentin State Penitentiary who wrote about racial discrimination and parole denial in a letter published by The Black Panther on July 7, 1975. He said confinement and its conditions had prevented him from seeing or being with his family for at least three years. He appealed for public support for his wife and children and described his experience as part of the racist penitentiary system. The letter does not identify the underlying conviction, the start of his imprisonment or an actual release date.
