Biography
Edgar Timmons Jr. was one of four Black land-reclamation protesters arrested by federal marshals at Harris Neck, Georgia, on May 1, 1979. The protesters occupied land that the federal government had taken from a Black community during World War II and refused an order to leave. A federal judge convicted them of criminal contempt on May 4 and imposed thirty days in jail. They spent more than fifteen days in the Savannah jail, but their exact release dates and the amount of the thirty-day sentence ultimately served have not been located.
