Biography

Page 5’s June 8 Miami report names Doss Roberts, thirty-three, a railway worker, as still held despite collapse of an accusation that he slapped and knocked down a nine-year-old white girl at 23rd Street and North Miami Avenue. The child denied being molested, and E. W. Coulter said she was never out of his sight and nobody touched her. The article places the detention within police-backed Klan racial terror and forced-labor recruitment. The enlarged original confirms Doss Roberts and an alleged slap, not the severe OCR errors. Exact arrest, formal statute, release and actual duration are unprinted. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1936/v13-n138-NY-jun-09-1936-DW-Q.pdf
