Biography

Dora Cooper was one of four young Communists sentenced by Magistrate Mark Rudich in Coney Island Court on May 28, 1931, for May First activity outside P.S.101 on West Third Street. The Daily Worker of May 29, page 2, says two were Young Pioneers and two were Young Communist League members but does not assign each affiliation individually. Dora Cooper was reported sixteen and Sadie Berge seventeen. They refused a $10 fine and chose two days in jail. This is the reported jail sentence and choice, not an independently established discharge date or calculated custody duration.
