Biography

Corporal Dean Edwards, 20, of Colfax, Louisiana, was one of the Camp Pendleton 14, Black Marines arrested after confronting what they believed was a Ku Klux Klan meeting on November 13, 1976. Contemporary Associated Press coverage identifies Edwards as the second defendant brought to a special court-martial and places his prosecution within the case against all fourteen Marines.

The report identifies Corporal Dean Edwards, twenty, of Colfax, Louisiana, as the second Camp Pendleton defendant, with a special court-martial scheduled for Thursday before an all-officer board and Lt. Col. F. Latimer Gould. This is a planned trial, not an accomplished verdict or sentence. The common fourteen-defendant context does not justify assigning Henry’s plea or later Fletcher outcome to Edwards.
