Biography
Cody Michael Tarner was charged with arson and destruction of federal property after the July 15, 2020 burning of Supreme Court Police vehicles. Judge Royce C. Lamberth’s November 29, 2023 memorandum describes his pretrial detention and competency proceedings. A February 12, 2021 competency-commitment order led to evaluation at Butner; the April 15 report does not establish that report date as physical admission. He was actually returned to Butner on January 13, 2022. Following a November 10, 2022 restoration report, the court found him competent on January 23, 2023. The November 29 denial of release or dismissal as moot ended that competency-commitment dispute, while he remained detained at the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility pending trial.
