Biography
Cody Balmer was arrested on April 13, 2025 after setting fire to the Pennsylvania governor’s residence while Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were inside. Balmer pleaded guilty and was sentenced on October 14, 2025 to 25 to 50 years in state prison.
The sworn Boas Street search-warrant affidavit says Balmer voluntarily surrendered on April 13, 2025, was interviewed, and was transported to Dauphin County Prison for arraignment. It expressly records his birth date as March 23, 1987. The warrant was signed April 14 by Judge Dale E. Wenner; the executed inventory records a search that evening and a return the next morning. The affidavit’s account of a Palestine-related emergency call is an allegation at that stage. These records precede, and do not replace, the later guilty plea and sentence.
