Biography
Christopher Chitwood was arrested by Department of Homeland Security officers on November 4, 2025, near 650 Capitol Mall in Sacramento, California. A federal complaint alleged that he kicked an officer who was restraining another person during an arrest for trespassing on federal property. These are allegations, not findings of guilt. An August 2026 filing signed by defense and government counsel describes his participation in the protest from which the allegations arose and requests time to obtain recordings and other records. Chitwood was held in custody and appeared before a federal magistrate on November 6, 2025. The judge ordered his release on personal recognizance, directing the U.S. Marshal and Sacramento County Jail to release him. The misdemeanor assault-on-a-federal-officer case remains unresolved in the reviewed record. On August 21, 2026, the court continued his status conference to November 9, 2026, while counsel pursued discovery and plea negotiations. No conviction or imposed sentence is documented.
Source-document clarification
On November 6, 2025 at 3 p.m., Magistrate Judge Allison Claire signed an order directing the U.S. Marshal to release Chitwood on personal recognizance and Sacramento County Jail to provide a 30-day supply of any medications he was receiving. The 30 days concerns medication, not an additional jail term. The order establishes authorization for release, but contains no executed discharge return proving the time he actually left jail.
