Biography

Charles Shannon was a Black U.S. Army soldier and American Servicemen’s Union organizer imprisoned in the Fort Dix stockade. The report identifies him among the Fort Dix38 and says he was acquitted of leading the June5 stockade rebellion and physically released on September19,1969. In a separate dispatch dated October11, it reports that he was sent back to the stockade after military-intelligence questioning following distribution of ASU and Black liberation literature to soldiers in the Special Processing detachment. The October11 dateline is not treated as a certain admission day; the later confinement is not collapsed into uninterrupted service through the September release.
