Biography

Charles P. Casey was an American able-bodied seaman arrested at Hamburg on April 10, 1936 after Hitler jokes among his shipmates and an altercation with a plainclothes detective. He said he spent twenty days in Altona prison and was beaten there. The paper reports his arrival in New York on May 10 aboard the President Roosevelt and his request for a United States government investigation. The documented twenty days are recorded without calculating an unsupported discharge day from them. Daily Worker, May 12, 1936, page 2.
